I was recently breaking down a box when it unexpectedly tore, resulting in a small piece of cardboard with some corrugation peeking through. That was when I had a light-bulb moment and knew I wanted to use the cardboard with a small pile of handmade paper scraps I had for an earlier project.
Read on to learn more about this project and other creative uses for normally discarded materials.
"Dried leaves and flowers are favored in my work. On one page, I placed a blackened dried fern against the painted background. When working with blackened leaves/flowers, there are times when they fool the eye, requiring the viewer to study whether it is real or stamped. Aside from the painted background pages, the papers and textiles were results from sessions of eco-printing, eco-dyeing, tea staining, or dyeing with black beans. Finding a home in an art journal for even the smallest piece of paper or textile brings me great satisfaction." — Lynne Moncrieff
